When I was in high school I had really bad insomnia – literally, I was sleeping maybe 3 to 4 hours per night then going to a full day of school. College knocked insomnia out since I had fun things to do at night to get rid of that energy but in high school…I was a walking zombie during the day!
Since I never had time to get ready since I was sleeping until the very last minute I wish I had known some of the tricks and hacks that I know of today to get ready in a pinch.
Of course, I still sleep until the last possible minute to this day (what can I say, I love sleeping!) so I’ve developed a few tricks here and there including my five-minute hack to how to fake a blowout that requires no hairdryers, multiple products, or fancy styling tools!
Five Minute Hack: How to Fake a Blowout, Step by Step
Do you see this mess? This is the second day, meh hair that has a whole lotta frizz in the front and a bad wave in the back. Hot. Mess.
Enter the 1 3/4 inch barrel curling iron. I’ve had this trusty bad boy for over seven years and it’s still going strong! To achieve the perfect fake blowout you’ll need a large barrel curling iron – the larger, the better to achieve glamorous “blown out” curls.
*Note – please don’t forget to use a heat protectant! I do this style three times a week and it’s important to protect your hair from the shock of the ceramic barrel.
The trick is to start at the top of your head, roll the iron underneath to create a little volume at the top of your head, slowly pull the iron down the strands and once you’re at the end, roll it under and hold for about four seconds and unclip. Voilà!
(Ignore how flat my hair is here, I have fine hair and lots of it so volume = nonexistent) But this is a great way on how to fake a blowout. I used to try this with freshly washed hair in the morning and a big round brush and it took so long! No I’ll usually let my hair air dry and I’ll wait the next day to give it a quick curl and boost. Consider my hair = done!
Bonus alert! If you want to accessorize, even more, I love wearing this Vintage Lace Headband from Goody that is on sale at Meijer (along with a bunch of other staple beauty, hair, and skincare products) all week long – very a la Blair Waldorf (Queen B is #GOALS).
