Chic Budget-Friendly Makeup Storage Options

September 1 //  by Kelly Baum

I, like anyone else who owns an excessive amount of makeup, love to organize it. I mean, have you seen my home decor board on Pinterest, that thing is overflowing with gorgeous white marble vanities and Diptyque candle brush holders. I love a good post on makeup organization and storage and since I just moved, I figured it was the perfect time to reshare the budget-friendly makeup storage that I can say has really withstood the test of time…and heavy amounts of eyeshadow palettes!

-AN OVERVIEW-

I keep the majority of my makeup stored in two $40 Helmer units from Ikea. I’ve had these for almost two years now and they are a great investment if you’re looking for an inexpensive and durable solution to storing all of your makeup. Don’t worry, only the left unit has makeup (I don’t have that much!) and I keep electronic and design supplies in the right unit. These have stood being moved, although they are slightly starting to fall apart. But I still highly recommend them because they look so chic but are incredibly handy to have.

-THE MAKEUP INSIDE-

Here’s an example of how I organize one of the drawers. I use kitchen drawer inserts from Ikea that were $4.99 I believe, but I don’t recommend these because they’re just a hair too big for these drawers. Amazon offers a wide array of different kinds of drawer inserts that would probably work better and I’ve purchased a few sets to use in the right Helmer unit!

-THE BRUSHES-

I’m a very minimalistic person by nature so I prefer to keep the top of these units free from clutter. I keep it simple with an acrylic tray I got from Amazon for $14.95, some JCrew coasters, a vase, and a candy jar with a scalloped brass lid that I got from Target in the party aisle for $12. This is a great way to store brushes because it keeps dust and dirt from settling on them, and it’s adorable. To up the cuteness, I added an $8 bag of filler pearls to keep everything upright.

-THE NAIL POLISH-

I cleaned out probably over 100 bottles of nail polish when I moved because there’s no point in hanging on to colors I haven’t used in two years. I downsized and as a reward, purchased a glass box that I absolutely love. I got this from JoAnn Fabrics for $8 (holla for the coupons!) and I’m addicted to buying glass boxes/terrariums, now. They’re incredibly chic and I love to keep all my favorite polishes right on top.

It’s incredibly easy these days to find good, chic, budget-friendly options to store your makeup. My top three places to shop for this would be Ikea, Target, and JoAnn Fabrics, especially with a coupon!

I’d love to know, how do you organize your makeup?

Thanks for reading,
