I get up at 4:45am every day…which means I have basically no time to get ready in the morning since I’m tired and rushing to get out the door! But, I recently picked up a kit from the store that has changed my morning routine and become my go-to back to school hairstyle!

My Go-To Back to School Hairstyle

I’m not kidding when I say this takes on five minutes to do and costs under $5 a kit – there’s just a few recommendations before you get started:

  • Your hair needs to be longer than shoulder length, otherwise you won’t have enough hair to wrap around
  • I can’t speak to if this method will work on very fine or very thick hair – I have medium hair and it works perfectly

So all you need is a “bun maker” kit – tons of brands sell these and are easily available at the store. It consists of a ponytail holder, a doughnut-shaped piece of mesh, and a few hair pins. I did need 3-4 extra bobby pins for my hair.

Here’s how to create the easiest five minute back to school hairstyle

Step 1: gather your hair in a pony tail in the middle of the back of your head. Slide the “doughnut” around the ponytail holder.

Step 2: spread out your hair around the doughnut so it’s in an even layer. Then, pinch the hair underneath the doughnut, almost like you’re going to tuck it underneath. This is key to forming a good bun.

Step 3: wrap the ends around the bun, just like you would with a regular bun. Use the large pins that came with the kit to secure the ends, and then go in with bobby pins to pin down any fly aways.

Et voila! The perfectly-formed bun that only takes five minutes to complete. Give it a spritz or two of hairspray to secure and it’s ready to go for a full day of classes and work. I can’t tell you enough how much this is going to save my life, it makes me look like I have my life together even when I’m rushing to get out the door!

I found my kit at my local drugstore but if you need a recommendation for a good kit to try, check this one out on Amazon (can’t beat that Prime shipping)!
