DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater: The Chic Way!
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ugly Christmas sweater! But for some of those ugly sweater parties, you definitely don’t want to wear something “ugly”, so I decided to make my own chic ugly Christmas sweater that still counts but is a little more cute and easy to wear than some of the full-blown Christmas sweaters I’ve seen! This is a super easy project and I used an old sweater I had and some supplies I bought from JoAnn Fabrics for under $10. Here’s how to make your own DIY ugly Christmas sweater!
-Old chunky sweater
-Decorative garland (found in the mini tree decorating section)
-Hot glue gun
-Several pieces of patterned felt
-Thin black marker
First of all, how gorgeous is this felt? I had no idea that JoAnn’s had such pretty and chic patterns so I had to pick up a few pieces for this project! I started by tracing three round ornament shapes onto my felt, leaving a block at the top so I could slide the garland underneath:
Next I cut them and glued them down in a round layout so it would appear as if the ornaments are hanging from the garland (hot glue makes this really easy!):
Then I cute the garland, leaving some slack and a little extra at the ends, and slide it beneath the ornaments and glued it down:
And that’s it! If you’re in need of an ugly sweater for an upcoming party, I highly recommend creating one of these-it’s easy and is still an ugly sweater, just not as tacky and overdone as some you might find in stores! JoAnns and Michaels have tons of coupons out right now for the holiday season so go, scoop up some holiday craft bits and create your own DIY ugly Christmas sweater!
