Katy Kat Matte Lipstick Swatches And Review

August 31 //  by Kelly Baum

Let me just say, matte lipstick usually isn’t my jam. I know, I know, it’s literally all the rage these days (*cough cough Kylie) but it’s just not a trend I really got into. I like to feel comfortable and moisturized and matte lipsticks don’t usually fall in line with that so I’ve really been branching out and trying to find a comfortable matte lip. Fast forward to last weekend when I had coupons…and when I have makeup coupons, there will be lipsticks!

These are the new “Katy Kat Matte” Lipsticks by Katy Perry for CoverGirl that retail for about $7-8 depending on where you buy them. There’s a wide range of shades but I picked up two of my usual pink/red hues in Cat Call and Magenta Minx.

Cat Call: a gorgeous raspberry red, satin finish
Magenta Minx: a cross between baby pink and a watermelon shade

First things first, I am wearing these lipsticks over a lipbalm in the swatches – I know this kind of defeats the purpose of wearing a matte lipstick but the combo just feels more comfortable to me. That being said, I have met some lipsticks that were still matte overtop of a lip balm (ColourPop!) and these CoverGirl lipsticks did not ace that test.

These are not long-wearing, I got my usual three to four hours of wear time before I needed to reapply, but at least I didn’t experience any sliding around or feathering.

A THING OF BEAUTY RATING: B+
These are nice lipsticks but that’s the thing: they’re just “nice”. They’re not 100% matte and they tend to cling to dry spots. But they are comfortable overall and the color packs a punch!
