All the Reasons to Say “Yes!” This Fall

About six and a half years ago I was not “Kelly Baum”. I was not a blogger, I was not someone who did things outside of their comfort zone and I was definitely not someone with any kind of  ambition. A far cry from the person you see today! Sometimes the biggest things that propel you forward in life start out as the smallest things, it only matters what you say those three little letters to…”yes!”

Weekend Recap – October 16

//not sponsored, affiliate links may be included

This weekend was rainy, blustery and filled with blankets and movies! I watched the entirety of War and Peace on Hulu while I did my cleaning and homework and my goodness, it is a beautiful period piece. I have not yet had the time to read War and Peace but it is definitely on my post-grad “freedom” to-do list. There’s no time like fall to catch up on everything on my watchlist, I just added Grantchester from Masterpiece Theater on PBS and I’m already excited for next weekend!

Five Tips for the Perfect Fall Hairstyle

// This post has been sponsored on behalf of Meijer. Thanks for supporting A Thing of Beauty!

The temperature has dropped about 20 degrees in the last 24 hours in Michigan and I am loving it. I broke out my boots and sweater today and I had to come up with the perfect fall hairstyle to match – during the summer I rock beach waves and loose curls but once it hits fall I am all about the braid. I decided to switch it up today and try a different braid/bun style than I normally do but is still quick and easy to do in the morning. Here’s how I got the perfect fall hairstyle and my tips and favorite products I used along the way!

How to Decorate a Dorm Room on a Budget – And Have it Look Good

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Devine Color by Valspar . All opinions are 100% mine.

It was only last year that I was decorating for a dorm room or first apartment, which is crazy to me because it feels so long ago! Time flies…when you’re an adult and the bills pile up! All kidding aside, I used to love decorating my dorm room or apartment every year and I actually loved the greatest challenge of all: designing and decorating, and being able to turn it back to the way it was at the end of the year. It was really important to me to have my personality in the room as much as I could, without getting a bill at the end. So I was really excited when I found Devine Color + Target and I knew it would be the perfect solution to decorate a dorm room on a budget and have it be removable when it’s time to move out!

Weekend Recap – October 2

It’s officially fall in Michigan! The temperature finally dropped to below 70 this weekend and I grabbed the first opportunity to whip out my trench coat and brown riding boots. Yes, I was a little toasty but totally worth it because fall is my favorite time of year. The one thing I don’t like about fall is the season allergies, which is why I laid on my couch for most of Saturday but Sunday I was feeling better to catch my brother’s football game and get out for a little shopping!

Five Fall Movies to Watch This Weekend to Celebrate Fall

//not sponsored

Nothing gets me more excited for fall than when the weather cools down, I can grab a slice of apple pie and my fuzzy socks and enjoy one of my favorite fall movies. I made some sunflower butter cookies today since I miss peanut butter cookies so much, but a peanut allergy kind of gets in the way of that. Everyone else is out at the cider mill today too (I live right down the street from one) but a gluten and apple intolerance also gets in the way of that…so sunflower butter cookies and movie day it is!

Weekend Recap – September 25

It is hotter than hell in Michigan this week – the leaves are still changing colors but it doesn’t feel like fall when I have to leave the house in shorts and flip flops. Thank goodness the heat is supposed to break later this week, I’m ready to break out my Hunters and my wool sweaters. And the cider, of course! I swear, if I could find some where fall existed year round, I would move there in a heart beat. After all, life starts all over when it gets crisp in the fall…

My End of Summer, Navy Blue Tablescape

// not sponsored, affiliate links included

I finally unpacked the last of my moving boxes a few weekends ago and I have been so excited to put my life together. I purchased a new dinnerware set months ago to replace my $20 Ikea set that I had been using and there is nothing more beautiful than a gorgeous plate set on my new dining room table! I decided to go with the 5-Piece Fiesta Dinnerware Set in Cobalt which turned out to be this beautiful navy blue – and we all know, I can’t resist anything navy. Here’s how my navy blue tablescape turned out!

Weekend Recap – September 18

I am happy to say that I survived a Harry Potter bar crawl over the weekend! It’s so important to me that no matter how crazy my life gets, I make time for the occasional afternoon to get out and enjoy life for a bit. Not that I don’t enjoy doing school work all day…but I couldn’t pass up $5 Butterbeer and Golden Snitch specials! But I definitely regret not studying the whole weekend, just a little bit.

Weekend Recap – September 11

Saturdays are for…studying financial management! I’ll have to admit, these weekend recaps aren’t going to be as fun anymore…because my weekends sadly aren’t all that fun anymore. They’re filled with laundry, flash cards and, let’s be real, wine. It’s definitely been a tough adjustment period to what is basically a whole new life, but I just keep telling myself that change is inevitable and to be afraid of change is to be obsolete in life. It is ourselves after all that propels life forward, and goodness knows I’ve done just about enough of that lately! Here’s what all I was up to this weekend, grad school not included.
