Weekend Recap – November 6

I brought tons of souvenirs…and the flu back with me from NYC, sadly, so this weekend has been more sweatpants, tea and Netflix (Stranger Things 2!) than shopping and fun times. But that’s okay, sometimes I just get so burnt out from life that I need a solid two days to sleep and eat a whole container of pomegranate seeds in one sitting!

I Went to NYC for 3 Days and Almost Didn’t Come Back!

//not sponsored, affiliate links included

I just got back this week from a few days in NYC and holy cow, was it an experience! I decided to take a leap of faith this year and book my first airplane trip ever – next stop, LaGuardia airport! I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous to go – traveling with food allergies is never easy, especially when you have seven of them. But it actually was not as difficult as I thought it would be and I ended up having a lot of fun and took some really gorgeous photos!

My Daily Fall Uniform

//not sponsored, affiliate links may be included

My shopping habits have done a complete 180 over the past two years – I used to hoard Kohl’s clearance sale finds and my closet had 75+ dresses (picture that in an apartment!) but now I’ve stopped buying just to have a lot of options and switched to a few J.Crew staple pieces that I really love and wear much more often so I really get my money’s worth – like a few of the new favorites I just purchased which have basically turned into my daily fall uniform.

I have to say, it’s a little freeing to donate $375 worth of items from your closet and replace it with a few classic pieces. If nothing else, it’s easier to move now!

All the Reasons to Say “Yes!” This Fall

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #WellYesMoment #CollectiveBias

About six and a half years ago I was not “Kelly Baum”. I was not a blogger, I was not someone who did things outside of their comfort zone and I was definitely not someone with any kind of  ambition. A far cry from the person you see today! Sometimes the biggest things that propel you forward in life start out as the smallest things, it only matters what you say those three little letters to…”yes!”

Weekend Recap – October 16

This weekend was rainy, blustery and filled with blankets and movies! I watched the entirety of War and Peace on Hulu while I did my cleaning and homework and my goodness, it is a beautiful period piece. I have not yet had the time to read War and Peace but it is definitely on my post-grad “freedom” to-do list. There’s no time like fall to catch up on everything on my watchlist, I just added Grantchester from Masterpiece Theater on PBS and I’m already excited for next weekend!

Five Tips for the Perfect Fall Hairstyle

// This post has been sponsored on behalf of Meijer. Thanks for supporting A Thing of Beauty!

The temperature has dropped about 20 degrees in the last 24 hours in Michigan and I am loving it. I broke out my boots and sweater today and I had to come up with the perfect fall hairstyle to match – during the summer I rock beach waves and loose curls but once it hits fall I am all about the braid. I decided to switch it up today and try a different braid/bun style than I normally do but is still quick and easy to do in the morning. Here’s how I got the perfect fall hairstyle and my tips and favorite products I used along the way!

How to Decorate a Dorm Room on a Budget – And Have it Look Good

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Devine Color by Valspar . All opinions are 100% mine.

It was only last year that I was decorating for a dorm room or first apartment, which is crazy to me because it feels so long ago! Time flies…when you’re an adult and the bills pile up! All kidding aside, I used to love decorating my dorm room or apartment every year and I actually loved the greatest challenge of all: designing and decorating, and being able to turn it back to the way it was at the end of the year. It was really important to me to have my personality in the room as much as I could, without getting a bill at the end. So I was really excited when I found Devine Color + Target and I knew it would be the perfect solution to decorate a dorm room on a budget and have it be removable when it’s time to move out!

Weekend Recap – October 2

// not sponsored, affiliate links may be included

It’s officially fall in Michigan! The temperature finally dropped to below 70 this weekend and I grabbed the first opportunity to whip out my trench coat and brown riding boots. Yes, I was a little toasty but totally worth it because fall is my favorite time of year. The one thing I don’t like about fall is the season allergies, which is why I laid on my couch for most of Saturday but Sunday I was feeling better to catch my brother’s football game and get out for a little shopping!

Five Fall Movies to Watch This Weekend to Celebrate Fall

//not sponsored

Nothing gets me more excited for fall than when the weather cools down, I can grab a slice of apple pie and my fuzzy socks and enjoy one of my favorite fall movies. I made some sunflower butter cookies today since I miss peanut butter cookies so much, but a peanut allergy kind of gets in the way of that. Everyone else is out at the cider mill today too (I live right down the street from one) but a gluten and apple intolerance also gets in the way of that…so sunflower butter cookies and movie day it is!

Weekend Recap – September 25

//not sponsored, affiliate links may be included

It is hotter than hell in Michigan this week – the leaves are still changing colors but it doesn’t feel like fall when I have to leave the house in shorts and flip flops. Thank goodness the heat is supposed to break later this week, I’m ready to break out my Hunters and my wool sweaters. And the cider, of course! I swear, if I could find some where fall existed year round, I would move there in a heart beat. After all, life starts all over when it gets crisp in the fall…
