So at the moment, I’m having a bit of a “staycation” at home – I had a few extra vacation days from work but didn’t want to spend the time or money traveling anywhere so I opted for a few days at home to catch up on life, deep clean the house (the holidays bring SO much glitter!) and of course, indulge in chocolate!
I was playing around in the kitchen earlier today when I had a craving for both coffee and chocolate and decided to create what is the most amazing cup of hot chocolate mixed with coffee that I’ve ever had! The recipe for my Nutella mocha below, enjoy!
For today’s recipe, I’m using semi-sweet baker’s chocolate: I recommend using a chocolate bar from the baking aisle at your local supermarket because it’s going to give your drink that slightly bitter flavor that hot chocolates usually have. Don’t worry if you don’t like semi-sweet chocolate, the Nutella will sweeten it up!
I use a travel brewer to brew my espresso – I pack the coffee grounds in, drip boiling water over top, and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. This is a great tool to have in the kitchen because it makes it quick and easy to prepare a quick cup of Joe!
You want the chocolate to be completely melted – and be sure to use a whisk to stir when melting it so it breaks up any clumps. If you feel your chocolate is still a little lumpy, use a small strainer to break them up when pouring into your mug.
Voila! Gourmet mocha cafe in minutes! Here are a few of the ingredients and tools that I used and highly recommend (seriously, that single-serve coffee brewer is under $10!):
I’d love to know, how do you take your hot cocoa this time of year?
