Think About Your Eyes this Summer!

Summer is nearly here (small fist pump) and I can’t wait to break out all my Sperry’s, Victoria’s Secret swimsuits and my Ray Bans. It’s my first summer in three years that I won’t have summer classes and I can’t wait to spend as much time outside as I possibly can! But as much fun as the summer brings it’s also the time of the year when I kick my butt into gear to be more health conscious about my choices. From sunblock to sunnies, it’s incredibly important to think about your choices over the summer because you never know what will come back to haunt you years later. Just like I take care of myself by exercising, it’s just as important to take of your diet, your skin, and your eyes during the summer!

// How well do you take care of your eyes?

I remember the first summer I had to get glasses (when I was 16, no less), and I didn’t want to pay for prescription sunglasses so I just went for the summer without. And the next summer without. And the next summer without and I can’t tell you how much of a mistake that was. I’m definitely guilty of forgetting how important it is to care for your eyes. Just like we exercise and stick to a healthy diet, keeping up to date with eye checkups is just as vital to your health!

If you aren’t already, it’s so important to get your eyes checked annually in a comprehensive exam. The Think About Your Eyes campaign has a lot of great resources if you aren’t sure where to start with an eye exam or were wondering what else you could do to protect your eyes. Click here to use their locator tool to find an eye professional near you!

Since I spend most of my days staring at a screen – which is not a healthy habit! – I really encourage everyone to make checkups at least once per year, just like you would with any other part of your health.
