DIY Sailboat Decor
What better way to start a Monday than with a beautiful nautical-inspired DIY? I love nautical decor and I came across a few rolls of beautiful elegant paper for under $5 and I thought that I simply had to create a DIY with it! This is such a simple and gorgeous DIY to create that I highly recommend giving the wood creations section at JoAnn Fabrics a look to see what else you could decoupage into a beautiful mantle piece.
//How to DIY sailboat decor
- Selection of scrapbooking paper. I found these three rolls in a pack for $4.99 at Target
- Tacky Glue or Modge Podge
- Wooden sailboat cutout (like this one)
- Decorations such as glitter, pearls, crystals, flowers, etc.
- Foam paint brushes for smoothing the glue
Trace your sailboat on the paper and cut it as closely to size as you can. You can cover the whole piece on one pattern or break it up as I did.
Working quickly, smooth the glue in a thin even layer onto the wood and then drop the paper on over top. Be sure to smooth the glue with a foam brush because this prevents the paper from drying wrinkly.
Start applying your accoutrements – I chose glitter and pearls for this one! I’ve tried to apply pearls to wood with hot glue before and it didn’t work out so well so I recommend using something like tacky glue-it holds them a lot better!
