Melanoma is a serious topic when it comes to your skin-and it’s terrifying that more and more people that I talk to (myself included!) have known someone who’s gone through it or have had their lives touched by it in a way. While high school was a little while ago for me, I do remember how trendy it was to go tanning and that a lot of the, your social status was defined by how evenly tanned your skin was.
Enter “Your Skin is In“, a pledge program where you make the promise to love your skin and keep it healthy and safe from cancers. Melanoma is almost entirely curable if it’s caught on time, which is why I like to raise awareness here on A Thing of Beauty each year to educate yourself, especially if you enjoyed tanning when you were younger, and to take precautions to keep yourself healthy!
I’d love it if you joined me in taking the pledge here to keep your skin safe, and if you’re a high school student, Your Skin is In offers a great educational program for young adults and offers several ways to get involved to spread awareness at your school!
If nothing else, I hope I encourage you to stop for a moment and think about your health-go buy some SPF or cut back on the tanning. Any small step you can take is a step in the right direction for your health.
I’d love to know your story on how you’re keeping your skin safe-let me know in the comments below!
