Back To School: Car Essentials Kit
T-minus 3 weeks until school officially starts-and for some of us college kids, that means getting the car ready for the school year! I like to prep in the week or two before the semester starts because A. I know my time is going to be crunched once the semester starts and B. my parents like to make sure I’m all set before I’m off! This year I’m off to school in a brand new Cruze which is a serious upgrade over the 15 year-old Tahoe I was driving before-hard work pays off! But, just because a car is new doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of it. So I’ve compiled a “car essentials kit” which is perfect for the college student driving a new car to school. It’ll keep yours and your parent’s minds at rest and the best part? It takes up no space at all in the trunk!

So these are the essentials you need to keep in your car to keep you-and your brand new vehicle-safe and well-maintained!

These things are life-savers! If you ever spring a leak on a tire or start losing air, portable air pumps (about $15) plug into your car and can blow up your tire in 10 minutes. I’ve used mine quite a bit through college when I don’t have the time (or money!) to go use a pump at a car wash.

New cars might not be new forever, but you certainly can try to keep them looking new! The protect is to guard against UV rays fading that gorgeous glossy finish on your dashboard or trim and also against severe heat-we all know how hot cars can heat up!

This protects over 100 car washes-insane! This also protects your car from heat & UV rays, but it guards the outside which is the most vulnerable.

This is definitely a car essential! Maybe not as essential as the other parts of this kit, but it’s always handy to keep a good mix cd on hand for those spur of the moment road trips!

Always, always keep a spare flashlight in the car. If you’re driving at night and something happens it’s handy to keep a spare light in case you break down or you need a friend to check something out.

It’s good to take note of where the pressure of your tires should be and always aim to keep them filled at the correct level. Not only will this save you on gas, but it will keep your tires healthy and working for longer.

I hope you picked up a few tips on what to stock your car with for the school year! And as always, keep a list of important numbers in your phone, like the campus police number and a local tow truck just in case you need it.

A portable air pump is such a great thing to have on hand! I’ve used mine several times over the years! My favorite Armor All product is the Tire Shine – it keeps my tires looking gorgeous for days! [client]
