DIY Gold Glitter J.Crew-Inspired Cork Coasters!
So I fell in love with these coasters from j.crew but as someone on a tight budget that doesn’t buy things unless they’re 60% off and I have a coupon, I was not about to drop $12.50 on a set of coasters although they’re really freaking adorable.
So I decided to diy my own! My cost came to about $5.25 so for less than half the price (not factoring in $5 for shipping, too) I was perfectly happy to make these!
It’s super easy-I bought a 4 pack of plain cork coasters from the Mainstays line at Walmart for $3.47 and a bottle of gold glitter glue for $1.49 from Meijer. Just make sure your glitter glue says it’s good for crafts and to stick to wood.
I really liked DIYing these because I could make whatever designs I wanted! So grab some masking tape you have lying around and an old paintbrush (or nail art brush, if you’re me) and plan out a design and start painting. I did two coats, but I would go with three just to make the glitter really opaque.
When you’re done with the glitter, be sure to cover the design with mod podge (or equal parts water and elmer’s glue) to lock the glitter in place. I made the mistake of skipping this step and one of my glasses is looking mighty glittery!
So that’s it! Super easy and you can do whatever design and whatever color you want!
Voila! Beautiful new coasters! Click here to see the inspiration.
Another way you could do this would be to use a coat of gold paint under the glitter to make the color stand out even more against the coat-but it’s whatever you like!
So I’d love to know what you think-are you up for some new coasters? Let me know in the comments below!
